Student loan calculators
Two calculators: one for borrowers living in New Zealand, one for those overseas — because the rules are entirely different.
In New Zealand, repayments are a percentage of income above the threshold, and the loan is interest free. Overseas, you're charged interest and repayments are set by the size of the loan rather than what you earn, which catches a lot of people out.
Both show what you'll repay, how long until it's gone, and what extra payments would do.
New Zealand student loan calculator
This calculator will let you know how much of your monthly income will be going towards student loan payments, expected loan balance at certain dates in the future, and when you can expect to have your loan paid off by.
There are even options available to add additional contributions to your student loan with this calculator. And there is also an option to enter how much you want to assume your income will increase by (if any).
If you would prefer to see what your take home income will be after payment of student loan, then you can check out the take home pay calculators.
Student loan repayments in New Zealand vs overseas
This calculator lets you see how much you will likely pay towards your student loan if you live overseas. Again, there are options to add additional contributions too. You can also see how much of the loan being paid is principal and how much is interest.
Not only can you see how much you would pay if based overseas, but you can also compare that to if you stayed in New Zealand. The calculator will show the difference from just the loan payment perspective.
