Every plan is written by me. You deal with one person, from the first call to the follow-up three months later.

Ten years advising, no juniors, no handovers, no one new to get up to speed with your situation.

Fees

I earn no commission, no trail, and no percentage of your investments. My only income is the fee you agree with me up front.

Every price below includes GST. What you see is what you pay.

Most clients
Full financial plan
$3,700

A complete written plan covering your KiwiSaver, mortgage, savings, insurance needs and retirement. Built around your numbers, not a template.

Typically the right fit if you have:

  • A home, a mortgage, KiwiSaver and savings
  • Up to three rental properties
  • Retirement coming up, and you need to know how to draw an income from what you’ve built
Full financial plan, complex
$5,000

The same plan, where untangling how everything fits together is a job in itself. More moving parts to model, and more time working out how they interact.

Usually applies if you have:

  • More than three rental properties
  • A trading business or company structure that your investing or lending runs through
  • Complex banking or lending arrangements

It's the structure that sets the price, not the size of your assets. Plenty of people with substantial wealth have a straightforward set-up, and pay the standard fee.

Not sure which applies? You don't need to work it out. We confirm it on a free initial call, and you'll never be quoted a price you haven't agreed to first.

Nothing is payable up front. There's no deposit. The invoice is due two weeks after you've received your advice, so you see the work before you pay for it.

Both plans include

What you get
  • A written plan you keep
  • A one-page summary, the whole thing on a single sheet
  • Your own copy of the planning tool, so you can test your own what-ifs
  • A yearly check sheet, so you can see for yourself whether you're on track
  • A rebalancing sheet for keeping your investments where they should be
How it works
  • An initial call, at no charge
  • A meeting to agree the direction before I write anything
  • A meeting to walk through the finished plan together
  • A follow-up three months on, to check what's actually been done
  • Quick questions by email answered free for the next twelve months

The aim is that you leave able to run this yourself. If you want me again, you'll know where I am.

Advice by the hour

One-off advice - $290/hr
Existing plan clients - $232/hr

If you want advice on one area rather than the full picture, such as where to invest your savings, I charge $290 an hour.

Investment and mortgage planning usually takes about 4-6 hours, as does scenario testing (buy a house or not, reduce work hours or not etc). You get a short report with the analysis and recommendation. It's narrower by design though. No planning tools for you to keep, no one-page summary, no three-month check, and no 12 months of contact. That's the trade for a smaller fee.

If you're comparing fees

You may see a similar or cheaper one-off fee elsewhere. It's worth checking what sits behind it, because a plan fee is often only part of what an adviser earns from you.

Three questions worth asking anyone:

  • Do you receive commission from any product you recommend, including insurance and KiwiSaver?

  • Do you charge an ongoing percentage of my investments?

  • Is your fee the only money you'll make from me?

My answers are no, no, and yes. A percentage that sounds small compounds into a large number over a long retirement, and it's charged whether or not you hear from your adviser that year. That's the comparison that matters. Not the fee on this page.
